Chief Scouts Desk : Chief Scout At Gl Comm Conference 09

The Chief Scout announced at the G/L .Commissioners Conference the tie up of the Gaisce /Duke of Edinburgh Award with the Chief Scout Award. The Chief Scout Award still been the Superlative award in Scouting Ireland . Over the past year the Chief Scout together with both Chief Commissioners have held discussions with An Gaisce  this was on foot of a survey carried out by the Chief on taking up Office in Sept 08. Meetings at high level between both Organisations over this period have finalised with the Announcement at a Gaise Board meeting held in Cork last weekend at which the Chief Scout Michael John Shinnick attended. The youth  Programme development team have had a very important input into this move forward and the Chief Scout had asked C.C.Y.P. to incorporate this into the  Development of the youth programme  and the new Chief Scout Award  is now bedded in to the New Programme. This is  a milestone in support for our youth members and will give them an opportunity to gain recognition for the work they are doing AS PART OF THEIR EVERYDAY SCOUT ACTIVITIES.

Chief Scout said “memorandum of agreement will be signed before end of year and this step forward will support all our youth members north and south of the border, we will end up having a franchise to operate fully the Gaisce within Scouting Ireland and will be of major support to all our  members both youth and adult in years to come.”
