What is EUR Hopping?

It is initially a partnership between two or more Scout patrols from two or more European countries which involves:

·establishing contact

·regular communication

·joint decision on a common project

Following on from this, a project is implemented in co-operation between the patrols which involves:

·common preparation of the project

·implementation

·common evaluation and follow-up

How should it be completed?

The following steps should be followed to complete EUR Hopping:

·Send the application to the LoA Ambassador

·Consider and select partner patrol with the assistance of the LoA Ambassador

·Communicate with the partner patrol

·Decide upon the project to be carried out and make a plan for the project

·Carry out the project as planned

·Evaluation and follow-up

·Send a short report to the LoA Ambassador

Why undertake EUR Hopping?

In the process of intercultural education it represents a step forward from "Express EURself"

·It contributes to the increase of young peoples awareness of belonging to a worldwide movement.

·It encourages youth involvement in international projects.

·It encourages the project approach - especially for preparing the "real" meetings.

·It can be easily integrated in the existing youth programme of National Scout Associations and it adds a European dimension to them.

·It enhances intercultural awareness and stimulates active participation.

Some suggestions to get you started …

The following are some suggestions, but by all means come up with your own ideas!

·Complete a common environmental project simultaneously in each country

·Try a Scout activity which is particular to the other patrol’s country

·Undertake patrol camps in both countries with a common programme

And some tips …

Remember the following when planning your project:

·The more communication between the patrols the better! Use whatever media you have at your disposal, but where possible use the internet and email

·If a troop is planning a foreign camp then it might be a good idea to try and link with patrols from that country, and it may then be possible to meet with the patrols you work with on the project

·As with the other parts of Lands of Adventure, set a realistic time frame for the project … if it goes on for too long it won’t be finished!!!
