What is Express EURself?

It is a creative project based on a given theme that is planned, implemented and evaluated by a Scout patrol. As a result it will have a report in a creative/media format which can be shown to other people, using any media format of your choice.

Your creative project can be in any format such as:

·Music

·Web site

·Sculpture

·Art

·Still photograph

·Photo collage

·Animation

·Video

·Performance

·Drawing

·Painting

·Multi media

·Dance

·Mural

·Powerpoint presentation

Your finished project will be made available on CD, DVD, and on the European Scout Region web-site, and could therefore potentially be seen by anybody, anywhere in the world.

You could also put your completed project on a website of your choice, and distribute it yourself.

How should it be completed?

The following steps should be followed to complete Express EURself:

·Send the application to LoA Ambassador

·Plan the project and consider the format in which the result will be made available

·Carry out the project as planned

·Evaluation and follow-up

·Send the result to the LoA Ambassador

Submission Guidelines

You may submit your project either in its original format (eg video tape, CD, DVD, mini-disk, audio cassette) or in encoded format (Windows Media Player, Quick Time, or Real Player) to the Lands of Adventure Ambassador.

·Sculpture, Art, Still photograph - Send digital photographs of stages of project and finished project

·Photo collage - Send collage by email.

·Animation, Video, Performance - Send video (VHS or DVD). Maximum duration 5 minutes.

·Drawing - Send digital photographs of stages of project and finished drawing

·Painting, Multimedia - Send on CD, or email

·Dance - Send video (VHS or DVD). Maximum duration 5 minutes.

·Mural - Send digital photographs of stages of project and finished mural

·Powerpoint Presentation - Send on CD, or email

Why undertake Express EURself?

·It helps young people to focus on the main elements of carrying out a project.

·It represents the first step in intercultural education by encouraging young people to communicate their experiences thorough-out Europe and by allowing them to receive easy-to-understand information about other cultures, ways of doing Scouting, etc.

·It encourages the "marriage" between "traditional" Scout activities and projects with new information technologies.

·It contributes to enhance young people's awareness of belonging to a worldwide movement.

·It provides Scouts and leaders with ideas and suggestions for future activities and projects.

·It encourages youth involvement in all stages of the Scout project.

Some suggestions to get you started …

The following are some suggestions, but by all means come up with your own ideas!

·Create a mural on your Scout Den wall

·Produce a short ‘tourist’ video about your locality

·Make a film about a Scout activity

·Create a work of art to be displayed in a public area

And some tips …

Remember the following when planning your project:

·The project can take any form, but is important that the results can be shared in one of the mentioned formats with Scouts around Europe.

·Get all the patrol members involved … many Scouts have hidden artistic abilities that need to be encouraged

·As with the other parts of Lands of Adventure, set a realistic time frame for the project … if it goes on for too long it won’t be finished!!!
