C Team unveil Scouting Stamps from An Post
In another publicity coup for Scouting Ireland, the Communications Team have unveiled the two stamp designs that An Post will launch in May to celebrate 100 years of Scouting.
There will be two stamps, available from May 9th, one depicting Scouting as it was and the second presenting a modern image of Scouting.
Both genders are represented and a female member features on the modern stamp to seek to change the still widely held public perception that Scouting is for males only. The traditional image will be on 78c stamps of which 280,000 will be in circulation while the modern image will be more prolific with a 330,000 print run planned of this 55c stamp.
A “First Day Cover” is available on 9th of May for anyone that wants a copy of these stamps to own. These are issued on the first day on a special commemorative card and can be stamped officially (only on that day) at which point they become collectables. For more information contact An Posts Philatelic Shop in the GPO, Dublin 1 (01) 7057400.
Commenting on the impending launch of the stamps National Secretary Michael Devins said "Congratulations to the Communications Team. Its great to see Irish Scouting represented on stamps, especially in the centenary year"
The early image of Scouting features Frank Purcell (gone home) while the model used in the modern image is Communications Team & 86th Dublin member Ciara Higgins. We're very grateful to Ciara and to Franks estate for allowing their images to be used.
