Dear Fellow Scouter,
I am sure that like me, you have been shocked and taken aback at the suffering and misery endured by the Haitian people following the recent catastrophic earthquake in that country.
I have been mulling over how we in Scouting Ireland can offer comfort and support to the victims of the earthquake. It has been suggested to me that Scouting Ireland establish a fund for the victims by seeking donations from Groups in the Association, but after due consideration and consultation with my NTPIC colleagues, I believe that the most expeditious and effective way of giving support to the Haitians is for Groups to make direct donations to charitable organisations who have the expertise to channel these funds into direct support to the victims.
Accordingly, I am strongly recommending that groups donate to either of the following Irish charity organisations (or charity of your choice) and indicate that the donation is emanating from a Scout Group;
o Goal
o Concern
o Irish Red Cross
I thank you in advance for your support and generosity to the Haitian earthquake victims.
Yours in Scouting
Michael John Shinnick
