The Scouts of the World Award pilot
Scouting Ireland is carrying out a pilot of the Scouts of the World award scheme with 21 young people. This shows Scouting Ireland as one of the world leaders in Scouting terms in promoting peace, development and environmental awareness. This is a special award showing that a young person is aware of world issues and has acquired through a voluntary service the necessary experience and skills to become a citizen of the world.

The Year of the Promise and Law
Throughout the Scouting world young people and adults make a commitment to live by a simple code of principles. The making of this promise introduces them to the worldwide brotherhood of Scouting, which united by these common values, is proving its worth in its second century by engaging with all of the major challenges young people in our world face.
Recognising this, Scouting Ireland's National Youth Programme Team has declared 2009 as the Scouting Ireland Year of the Promise and Law, in an effort to recognise the centrality of committing to a common set of beliefs to our movement's ethos and to how we achieve our goals.
So, what does this mean for you and the Venture Scouts in your Group?
Over the coming months a number of initiatives will be launched to provide you with the challenge of understanding the role of the Scout Promise and Law in your life and in your Venture Scout Group.

What is Venturing?
It's hard to explain what Venturing is all about! This is because as a Venture Scout you could end up doing almost anything- Imagination is your only limit! You can challenge yourself, try new things, acheive your goals and most importantly have a laugh with a group of like minded people...
As a Venture Scout you could find yourself trekking with a friend across some far off country on the Explorer Belt, or exploring the lesser known parts of Ireland on Challenge. You might decide to go along to the Venture Scout Moot and meet with Venture Scouts from around the country, then again you might hit the Galtees for a weekend of adventurous hill-walking!
In a fit of madness you might decide to try it all and really explorer what Venture Scouting has to offer you, but with all that's possible it might take you awhile to get around to everything!
If you are aged between 15 and 21, and want to find out more about Venturing, and are interested in joining your local group, then go to the Want to Join? page or contact the National Youth Representatives for Venture Scouts at ventrep@scouts.ie and a group near you will be found!
