Venture Scout Programme Theme 2008-2009

Scouting & Disability - Accessibility & Involvement

At the 2nd Venture Scout Moot 2008 and the 4th National Youth Forum, it was decided by Venture Scouts that their programme would benefit from focussing on specific issues for given periods of time. By venturing into communities to try to affect some of the same changes, it was felt, that the true aims of Venture Scouting could be achieved.

The Venture Scouts present agreed that disability and the issues surrounding it, both inside and outside of Scouting, would be the first theme promoted to Venture Scouts nationwide.

Thr programme resource pack on "Scouting & Disability - Accessibility & Involvement" is available below with Scouting for All - Reaching Out, a guideline. It appears here on the website, and a hard copy will follow in the post to your Venture Scout Unit in due course. As Venture Scouts you will be encouraged to take on projects in your communities, resulting in profound change nationwide when all efforts are added together.

The Seminar

The Venture Scout Team will run a one-day seminar on Venture Scout projects, with special focus on the 2008-2009 Programme Theme, Scouting & Disability - Accessibility & Involvement, in the new year. The aim of the seminar is to equip Venture Scout Units with the skills to undertake ambitious and worthwhile projects. Details on programme, booking and cost to follow..

Programme supported by National Events

This programme initiative is supported by the National Events VIBE and VMOOT. VIBE is designed to act as a checkpoint during the programme year, where Venture Scouts can share their experiences in a fun and supportive environment. VMOOT is the celebration of individual groups' projects in the already legendary VMOOT style at the project fair, alongside the adventurous daytrips, external workshops and VMOOT ball.

I hope that your Venture Scout Section and your community benefit from the desire of those who participated in VMOOT 2008 to create a better world by making Scouting open and accessible, by informing themselves about the issues involved and by recognising the differing abilities and needs of Ireland's young people.
