Venture Scouts : Cpcs

a

This section of the scouts.ie site is dedicated to providing the resources to County Progamme Coordinators to assist them in making Venture Scout Programme work in Scout Counties.

Your role in providing advice and support to groups is important to ensure the growth of Venture Scouting as a rewarding activity for young people between 15 and 21.

Follow the links below to find all that you need to know to be a CPC for Venture Scouts.

Programme Support

Youth Involvement

Each year counties must hold a County Youth Forum. Scouting Ireland has a specific guide on running the Venture Scout section of Youth Forums available here. Youth involvement in decision-making is priority number one in the World Strategy for Scouting adopted by the 36th and 37th World Scout Conferences.

The issue of youth involvement is sometimes rather controversial. In Scouting, youth involvement should not be the result of a struggle of power between adults and young people. On the contrary, it should be based on an alliance between the generations. Scouting needs to foster youth involvement in order to improve the quality of its programme and make it more attractive and useful to more young people. The World Organisation of the Scout Movement has a document to foster this environment of cooperation. The Youth Involvement, Youth Empowerment toolbox would be very useful to read through before becoming a CPC with responsibility for Venture Scouts, or during your term.

Activities

Specifically with new or reopened Venture Scout Groups, it can be tough to get started, to get into the programme cycle and to get activities going. Information on setting up a Venture Scout Group is available here. Supporting groups to brainstorm for activities and meeting ideas is very important for a CPC and is even more important than events. An active programme can be the difference between a successful Venture Scout Group and a closed one.

Recruitment

Whether your county is in the city or in a rural area, the Venture Scout Groups in your county could struggle for numbers from time to time. A checklist for recruitment can help give a place to start.

Executives/Crews/Committees and all that...

Each group, depending on its size, will have to decide for itself what system it will choose to use to govern itself

Programme

There are a number of options where Venture Scout programme is concerned, the details of which you can pass on to Venture Scout Groups.

Groups might opt to use the Gaisce - The President's Award to support programme.

Make sure that all Venture Scouts in your county are aware of the 2008/2009 Venture Scout programme theme - Accessibility and the resources available here on the website.
