A new Coronavirus Testing Centre is being set up at Castle Saunderson International Scout Centre. Together with the HSE, we are delighted to announce that the centre, which has been closed during the pandemic, will now serve the wider community of Cavan and the North East.
In February of this year, Scouting Ireland was contacted by the HSE to discuss the possibility of using Castle Saunderson as a COVID-19 test centre. Scouting Ireland worked in partnership with Coillte and Cavan County Council to establish this new testing Centre.
As a result of this agreement, from 1st April 2021, the centre will be closed for the duration of the pandemic. The use of our Scout Centre as a central hub to support combatting this pandemic is central to what Scouting is about. Throughout the pandemic, Scouts all over the country have stepped up to help their communities, and Scouting Ireland has seized this opportunity to help.
Speaking about the new testing centre, Anne Griffin, CEO of Scouting Ireland says,
"We are delighted to play our part in the national fight against the pandemic and to facilitate the new COVID testing site at Scouting Ireland’s Castle Saunderson International Scout Centre. This is an example of Scouting in action – Scouts stepping up to help create a better community”.
This new test centre will commence testing mid-April offering free testing to anyone referred for a COVID-19 test by a GP.
Welcoming the new test Centre the CEO of Cavan County Council stated, “We were happy to be involved in this process and to help facilitate this new testing service for the population of Cavan at this location.”
