Mount Melleray National Scout and Activity Centre

Mount Melleray National Scout and Activity Centre lies at the heart of the Knockmealdown Mountains. The centre, just 7 km’s outside the town of Cappoquin in Co. Waterford provides both indoor accommodation and outdoor accommodation in its adjoining campsite. Acquired by Scouting Ireland in 1979, the former boarding school has seen significate development and improvement over the years and today is the second largest Scout Centre in republic of Ireland.

The National Scout Centre is surrounded by mountain and forest tracks which are ideal for outside activities such as walks, hikes and orienteering. The nearby Glenshelane forestry, which is situated alongside a glen, is the perfect location for backwoods cooking and nature based training programmes.

The Centre also offers a number of on-site and indoor activities making it an ideally location for scouts of all ages. Whether you are looking for a weekend away or a week-long scout camp, Mount Melleray offers you the opportunity for a very active and varied activities programme.



Mount Melleray Scout Centre has the facilities for both indoor and outdoor accommodation and with the option of having all meals provided.

The Centre has indoor accommodation for over 300 people with separate leader accommodation. We also have a self-catering block within the Centre that consists of its own kitchen and sleeps up to 26 people in 3 separate rooms. The Centre has several campsites and there is plenty of fire wood available on-site from the campsite woodpile. Alter fires are also available on request.

Programme resources are available to support skills training, teamwork and learning by doing in small groups.
