RELATIONSHIPS OF MUTUAL LISTENING AND RESPECT

Scouting is a voluntary partnership between Scouts (young people) and Scouters (adult volunteers). Scouts are supported and facilitated on their personal journey, while being encouraged and challenged to achieve their full potential.

When young people and adults work together:

  • The relationship between the young person and the adult is based on mutual trust and respect
  • The Scouter facilitates young people’s self-education
  • The adult is a role model providing continued support
  • Young people gain more and more independence, responsibility and authority when supported and encouraged
  • Young people create, drive, develop Scouting programme, but the overall responsibility for providing a learning environment, achieving education and ensuring safety, is with the adult
