Dermot Lacey has been a member of the 3rd/40th/41st (Donnybrook) Dublin since joining as a Cub in 1966. He has been a Leader in the Cub Scout, Scout and Venture Sections and was Deputy Group Leader for many years. He represented Scouting on the National Youth Council of Ireland where he was Vice-President and Acting President. He was a member of the National Executive Board and National Training Team of the Catholic Boy Scouts of Ireland for many years and is on the Board of Scouting Ireland since October 2018.
He has held a number of Regional/County positions over the years. He is a member of the City of Dublin Youth Service Board, the City of Dublin Education and Training Board and the Boards of Ballsbridge and Rathmines College and Chairperson of Ringsend College and Liberties College. He was Board member of FÁS representing “Youth Interests” for eight year. He is currently serving a second term on the Governing Authority of University College Dublin. He also served for eight years as Chairperson of the South Inner-City Local Drugs and Alcohol Task Force.
Locally Dermot is a member of many bodies and has been a Dublin City Councillor since 1993 and was Lord Mayor of Dublin 2002-2003. In 2017 he published “All the Red Ties” a history of Donnybrook Scout Group to celebrate their 90th anniversary.
