Scouting International

International Scouting opens the door for Scouting Ireland members to connect, explore, and grow as part of the global Scouting community. Whether you're attending your group’s summer camp abroad, representing Ireland at a World Jamboree, participating in an international exchange, volunteering at an international campsite, or joining a training event abroad — international opportunities offer unforgettable experiences that build lifelong friendships and foster a deeper understanding of the world.

International Scouting reflects the shared values of unity, peace, and cooperation that are at the heart of the Scouting movement. It empowers young people to become active global citizens through travel, cultural exchange, service, and adventure.

Introducing: Máire Fitzgerald

My first taste of international Scouting was a group summer camp to Switzerland in my first year in our Scout Section. Since then, I have been lucky enough to experience a wide range of international opportunities, both abroad and here in Ireland.

Now more than ever we need to lean into the international dimension of Scouting, to deepen our understanding and appreciation of those with different perspectives and experiences from ours. Not only will engaging with such a rich diversity of opportunities help us to learn and develop as individuals, but it will also broaden our horizons as to what is possible within Scouting when you think a little differently.

There are many ways to engage with International Scouting, and it is my mission to ensure that every member can have an engaging and memorable international experience of their own.

Opportunities for Members:

Members can get involved in International Scouting in a variety of ways, including:

  • Planning international summer camps
  • Participating in exchanges with Scout groups from other countries
  • Attending international events and jamborees, either as participants or staff
  • Joining a Scouting Ireland contingent for a European or World event
  • Volunteering at international campsites
  • Taking part in international training, networking, and partnership events
  • Exploring opportunities through the European Scout Region or World Scouting
  • Hosting Scout groups who come to Ireland

Each of these experiences strengthens the values of Scouting and helps members (old and young) to develop confidence, leadership skills, and a broader worldview.
