Kilcully Scout Centre was transformed into an Arctic wonderland this past weekend as over 300 Cubs from across Ireland gathered for the 2025 National Cub Challenge. With 41 Sites participating in this year's event, the weekend proved to be an unforgettable adventure filled with excitement, teamwork, and plenty of Arctic thrills.
This year's theme, "An Arctic Adventure", saw our young adventurers take on the challenge of surviving in the frozen wilderness. Cubs put their Backwoods and Hillwalking Adventure Skills to the test as they worked to gather food for their Arctic Mission – with the ultimate reward being delicious, toasted marshmallows around the campfire.
The weekend kicked off with an inspiring Opening Ceremony before Cubs settled into their Site Build . The programme in the evening involved sending Cubs on an Arctic mission, culminating in a memorable Campfire session where stories were shared and friendships strengthened. The event wrapped up with Site Takedown and a Closing Ceremony that celebrated everyone's achievements.
Adding to the Arctic atmosphere, the Cubs were delighted to receive some unexpected visitors from Antarctica – two penguins who made special appearances throughout the weekend, bringing smiles and laughter to all who encountered them.
