Crean Challenge 2026 came to a successful conclusion last weekend following an extraordinary adventure in Iceland for 32 participating Irish Scouts.
After arriving at Úlfljótsvatn Scout Centre, participants were welcomed by true winter conditions and a spectacular Northern Lights display. Throughout the week, Scouts embraced the challenges of cold-weather camping, completed activities inspired by Tom Crean’s Antarctic expeditions, and developed essential winter skills.
Training hikes, snow-filled activities, and a lively cultural exchange with Icelandic Scouts formed key highlights of the experience.
The programme culminated in a demanding 18km winter expedition, where patrols demonstrated resilience, teamwork, and determination in sub-zero conditions.
The challenge concluded with a closing ceremony in Reykjavík, where participants were proudly presented with their Crean Challenge awards.
A huge thank you to the Scouters who made this adventure possible, and to Skátarnir and Úlfljótsvatn for an unforgettable joint adventure.
Congratulations to all Scouts involved in Crean Challenge 2026!
