The Scouting Ireland On the Water Conference was hosted by 1st Port of Galway and the Sea Scout Team from 13–15 February.
It was a weekend of inspiring speakers, including Arctic explorers, the CEO of the Marine Institute, and the CEO of Scouting Ireland. Key themes of the weekend included skill sharing, inclusion, and participation in workshops that highlighted environmental awareness, navigation, and section-specific programmes.
The event explored Friends of Scouting in the guise of NGBs and other organisations, with resources available to support the Adventures Afloat programme. The formal dinner was attended by Minister of State for Marine and Fisheries Timmy Dooley, who spoke about the organisation’s importance in introducing young people to maritime topics.
The event concluded with delegates exploring Galway’s maritime community and celebrating Scouting in Ireland’s 118th birthday.
It was a wonderful opportunity to highlight the extensive resources available to help all Groups make a splash in the future.
