Larch Hill International Scout and Guide Centre (located in Dublin, Ireland) welcomes international Scouts and Guides to join the staff team throughout the year. We offer three-month seasonal volunteer placements in Spring, Summer, and Autumn, where volunteers help run the centre and support visiting groups.
From time to time, long-term volunteer roles are also available for those looking to commit for a longer period.
Volunteering Opportunities
The Campsite & Programme Assistant at Larch Hill is a Long-Term Volunteer position. This role supports the delivery of a safe, welcoming, and high-quality experience for all guests and groups visiting Larch Hill. The role combines hands-on campsite operations with the coordination and delivery of outdoor programme activities. It plays a key part in supporting our, upholding Scouting values, and contributing to the living culture of meaning, growth, and connection at Larch Hill.

Key Responsibilities:
Campsite Operations
- Ensure all campsite areas are clean, presentable, and ready to welcome guests.
- Oversee campsite reception operations, including guest arrivals, campsite allocation, and smooth departures.
- Support maintenance of campsite infrastructure, facilities, and equipment.
- Oversee the rental, care, and stock control of campsite equipment.
- Report campsite-related issues promptly to the Centre Manager.
- Coordinate day-to-day work and tasks of volunteer teams.
Programme & Activities
- Support the delivery of Larch Hill’s activity programme, ensuring sessions are safe, engaging, and well run.
- Assist the Programme & Safety Officer in training and supporting volunteers to run activities confidently and safely.
- Maintain programme equipment, ensuring it is stored correctly and kept in good condition.
- Assist in activity administration and instructor scheduling.
- Support ongoing activity development.
- Ensure that all incidents, accidents, and near-misses are correctly reported and logged.
- Coordinate day-to-day work and tasks of volunteer teams.
Other Responsibilities
- Support and motivate volunteers working in campsite and programme areas.
- Ensure an exciting and welcoming environment for guests.
- Lead by example, representing Scouting values and the culture of Larch Hill.
- Help create a supportive, respectful, and inclusive environment where volunteers can learn and thrive.
- Assist in other areas of the Centre where necessary.
Skills and Abilities
- Able to work confidently and positively within a diverse, multicultural team.
- Capable of coordinating a team and supporting volunteers in their tasks.
- Physically and mentally prepared for hands-on programme work in an outdoor environment.
- Strong understanding of outdoor activity risks and how to manage them safely.
- Genuine interest in educational activities and their impact on young people.
- Clear, effective, and professional communication skills.
Knowledge and Experience
- Personal or professional experience in the outdoors.
- Proven ability to maintain high standards while working as part of a team.
- Experience in first aid or willingness to complete relevant training.
- Familiarity with Scouting methods, values, and programme.
- Outdoor experience and familiarity with activity-based environments.
- Understanding of Scouting values, methods, and programme.
Requirements
- Must be 18 years or older at the start of the volunteering period
- Able to communicate in English
- Holds EEA/EFTA/UK citizenship
